Esta pesquisa fundamenta-se nos debates sobre o papel da escola na atualidade e dos professores em temos de formação, atuação e práticas pedagógicas, dando prioridade nesta abordagem aos novos tempos vivenciados por essa classe de profissionais, pondo em questão as instituições escolares enquanto ambientes formadores e os professores como atores que, muitas vezes, tem papel decisivo para o processo ensino-aprendizagem, papel esse que tem estado em maior evidência por conta das diversas mutações ocorridas na sociedade, caracterizadas pelo mundo contemporâneo. O presente trabalho versa sobre a constituição da noção de memória na teoria freudiana. Para tanto, utilizamos, de modo primordial, as elaborações desenvolvidas no Projeto para uma psicologia científica. Objetivamos ressaltar que Freud subverte a problemática acerca do conceito de memória, concedendo a essa ideia um caráter criativo que se diferencia da simples representação de um objeto contido na realidade material. Em Freud, a memória excede o que se compreende comumente como evocação, ou seja, a lembrança não se restringe à (...) retomada de uma percepção. Se a memória é considerada como sendo o próprio psiquismo, é a sua relação com a pulsão e, posteriormente, com a noção de a posteriori que possibilita a efetivação de uma memória própria à Psicanálise. Desse modo, explicitamos que a memória em Freud é tanto um imperativo da pulsão quanto o desdobramento dos efeitos de uma temporalidade psíquica. Mesmo que parta de uma construção teórica estritamente associada às ciências naturais, um exame mais detido a respeito das formulações desse período nos ajuda a compreender a maneira como ele arquiteta uma teoria que, pelo menos a princípio, tinha como objetivo último esclarecer a problemática concernente à noção de memória.The present work deals with the constitution of the notion of memory in Freudian theory, primarily making use of the elaboration developed in the Project for a scientific psychology. We aim to point out that Freud subverts the problem of the concept of memory, giving this idea a creative character that differs from the mere representation of an object contained in material reality. In Freud, memory goes beyond what is commonly understood as evocation, i.e., memory is not restricted to a recovery of perception. If memory is considered to be the psyche itself, it is its relationship with drive and later with the notion of Nachträglich that enables the realization of memory appropriate to psychoanalysis itself. Thus, we make it explicit that memory in Freud is both an imperative of drive and of the unfolding of the effects of a psychic temporality. Even though Freud departs from a strictly theoretical construction associated with the natural sciences, a closer examination of his formulations from this period helps us understand how he constructs a theory that, at least at first, had the ultimate goal of clarifying issues regarding the notion of memory. The chapters reflect a rethinking of Mandeville’s legacy and, together, present a comprehensive approach to Mandeville’s work. The book is published on the occasion of the 300 years that have passed since the publication of the Fable of the Bees. Bernard de Mandeville disassembled the dichotomies of traditional moral thinking to show that the outcomes of the social action emerge as new, (...) non-intentional effects from the combination of moral opposites, vice and virtue, in such a form that they lose their moral significance. The work of this great writer, philosopher and physician is interwoven with an awareness of the paradoxical nature of modern society and the challenges that this recognition brings to an adequate perspective on the historical world of modernity. Resumo: Este artigo intenciona mostrar como o método filosófico desenvolvido e aplicado por Bergson, a intuição, articula distintos níveis de nossa experiência. Para isso, buscaremos extrair algumas lições de um momento especial da aplicação desse método, no qual o mergulho na interioridade psicológica se relaciona com a visão objetiva da exterioridade. Trata-se aqui de retomar o bloco central da obra A Evolução Criadora, núcleo metafísico da filosofia bergsoniana, no qual encontramos a reinterpretação dos dados da biologia que deriva na cosmologia. Mais precisamente, se a cosmologia elaborada nesse livro pode ser apontada como a performance mais paradigmática da intuição, nossa atenção se dirigirá a um passo metodológico anterior: a leitura dos dados da biologia evolutiva que dá contornos e subsídios à tese de que a consciência é coextensiva à vida.: This paper intends to explain how the philosophical method developed and applied by Bergson - intuition - articulates different levels of our experience. To this end, we will try to extract some lessons from a special moment in the application of this method, in which the dive into psychological interiority is related to the objective vision of exteriority. Our analysis will focus on the central part of Creative Evolution, the metaphysical nucleus of Bergsonian philosophy, in which we find a reinterpretation of the evolutionary biology of the 19th century. This reinterpretation has as a consequence the most important of Bergson's cosmological theses. More precisely, though the cosmology developed in this book can be regarded as the most paradigmatic performance of intuition, our attention will be directed to an earlier methodological step, the philosophical interpretation of the data of evolutionary biology that underlies the essential statement that consciousness is coextensive with life. Luxury entails a public differentiating use of objects and commodities, which is grounded on the overlapping of the spending with commodities and the ostentation of perceptible signs stimulating social imitation. In the eighteenth century, the debates on luxury emphasized the importance of the scrutiny of the power of imagination as intimately related to the contagious and mimetic character of the use of luxury objects. Thus, “luxury” represents a conceptual and, more generally, a semantic momentum in the evolution of the description (...) of the society grounded on the influence of imitation. The several textual testimonies of the luxury debates in the eighteenth century, including Bernard de Mandeville’s contribution, attest the epistemological perplexity regarding the status of the psychic side of the definition of commodities, or economic goods, as utilities responding to specific human needs: the escalade of the emulation in the acquisition of luxury objects seems to deny any relevant connection of luxury to basic needs. This justifies the reference to imagination as the psychic source of the needs connected to luxury consumption and the absence of a direct correspondence between luxury goods and needs. B. I argue that newborn infants are conscious. I propose a methodology for investigating infant consciousness, and I present two approaches for determining whether newborns are conscious. First, I consider behavioral and neurobiological markers of consciousness. Second, I investigate the major theories of consciousness, including both philosophical and scientific theories, and I discuss what they predict about infant consciousness.

Conscious experiences in infants remain poorly understood. In this NeuroView, Passos-Ferreira discusses recent evidence for and against consciousness in newborn babies. She argues that the weight of evidence from neuroimaging and behavioral studies supports the thesis that newborn infants are conscious.

A prevailing view in moral psychology holds that empathy and sympathy play key roles in morality and in prosocial and altruistic actions. Recently, Jesse Prinz (2011a, 2011b) has challenged this view and has argued that empathy does not play a foundational or causal role in morality. He suggests that in fact the presence of empathetic emotions is harmful to morality. Prinz rejects all theories that connect empathy and morality as a constitutional, epistemological, developmental, motivational, or normative necessity. I consider two (...) of Prinz’s theses: the thesis that empathy is not necessary for moral development, and the thesis that empathy should be avoided as a guide for morality. Based on recent research in moral psychology, I argue that empathy plays a crucial role in development of moral agency. I also argue that empathy is desirable as a moral emotion. (shrink)

When preferences are such that there is no unique additive prior, the issue of which updating rule to use is of extreme importance. This paper presents an axiomatization of the rule which requires updating of all the priors by Bayes rule. The decision maker has conditional preferences over acts. It is assumed that preferences over acts conditional on event E happening, do not depend on lotteries received on Ec, obey axioms which lead to maxmin expected utility representation with multiple priors, (...) and have common induced preferences over lotteries. The paper shows that when all priors give positive probability to an event E, a certain coherence property between conditional and unconditional preferences is satisfied if and only if the set of subjective probability measures considered by the agent given E is obtained by updating all subjective prior probability measures using Bayes rule. "Civilization" stresses progress of science and technology, along with the process of globalization. "Wenming" (...) draws from the Book of Chamges' principles, stressing the importance of ritual propriety and family over individualism, and "hé ér bù tóng" or "harmony without uniformity." This perspective promotes unity while respecting individuality. The research suggests that integrating ancient Chinese philosophy could enhance global cooperation by acknowledging the depth of cultural heritage and the importance of diverse societal values. Freud held complex and fascinating views on the question of mental causation. In this chapter, I propose an interpretation of Freud's views on this question, bringing together ideas from psychoanalysis, philosophy of psychoanalysis, and philosophy of mind. Faced with the impasse of the problem of how the mind interacts with the body, Freud created a two-dimensional picture of mental causation, with one dimension involving mechanistic causes and the other involving intentional causes. My thesis is that Freud's best-developed picture of mental (...) causation thesis describes mental causes as intentional causes using psychological vocabulary. I analyze three moments in Freud's work with a focus on mental causation. In the first topography, Freud uses a hybrid vocabulary, describing the mind in terms of both mechanistic causes and intentional causes. In his second topography, the mind increasingly assumes an intentional description. The third moment is Freud’s theory of anxiety, in which the arational cause of the unconscious drives, initially presented as a motor of the mind, gives rise to anxiety as an affective state that forces the self to find a solution for its mental conflicts. In the last part, I argue that Freud’s theory gradually moves from a reductionist approach to the mind-body problem on which mental causation is understood in terms of physical mechanisms, to a non-reductionist view where the mental becomes causally efficacious in its own right. This study explores the connections between time, travel, and creative acts such as painting and poetry, highlighting the similarities that unite these themes. It also focuses on the relationships between the East and the West in regards to these subjects, and posits that travel can be understood as an active form of meditation. The study argues that the meaning of wanderings can be found by learning to make them conscious, and that there has been a deep reflection on time, consciousness, (...) and mobility since ancient times. I critically examine developmental approaches to the notion of habituation in the Nicomachean Ethics. Such approaches conceive of habituation in terms of upbringing. I challenge this view. Developmental approaches provide a restrictive view of habituation. I argue that it is possible for the habituation of character to occur after upbringing. My interpretation avoids the charge that Aristotle only granted the possibility of virtue to those who have had a good upbringing.

Culture plays an important role in defining ethics standards because dissimilar cultures socialize their people differently, according to what is acceptable behaviour. The potential significance of ethnic groups for marketing justifies inquiry into the moral judgments, standards, and rules of conduct exercised in marketing decisions and situations arising from decisions whether or not to focus on individual ethnic groups within an economy. Identifying and targeting ethnic groups for marketing purposes are tasks fraught with many ethical difficulties. In a multicultural society (...) consisting of a dominant group and many diverse, minority groups defined by ethnicity, these problems can be expected to increase substantially. Consequently, marketers may include minority ethnic consumers in their mainstream marketing programs. In itself, this has ethical consequences. Alternatively, if marketers seek to target individual minority ethnic groups within the same economy a further set of ethical consequences needs to be considered. This paper reviews the concepts of ethnicity and ethnic groups and their relevance for marketing strategy within an economy where there is a dominant group and also significant minority ethnic groups. The ethical consequences for minority communities arising from the use of non-ethnic, mainstream marketing programs are examined. An alternative approach, ethnic marketing, is also examined and its ethical consequences in terms of other groups within the one country appraised. The ethical dilemma and tradeoffs facing marketers within advanced, culturally diverse countries are then considered. (shrink)

Imitation and mirroring processes are necessary but not sufficient conditions for children to develop human sociality. Human sociality entails more than the equivalence and connectedness of perceptual experiences. It corresponds to the sense of a shared world made of shared values. It originates from complex ‘open’ systems of reciprocation and negotiation, not just imitation and mirroring processes that are by definition ‘closed’ systems. From this premise, we argue that if imitation and mirror processes are important foundations for sociality, human inter-subjectivity (...) develops primarily in reciprocation, not just imitation. Imitation provides a basic sense of social connectedness and mutual acknowledgment of existing with others that are ‘like me.’ However, it does not allow for the co-construction of meanings with others. For human sociality to develop, imitation and mirroring processes need to be supplemented by an open system of reciprocation. Developmental research shows that from the second month, mirroring, imitative, and other contagious emotional responses are by-passed. Imitation gives way to first signs of reciprocation (primary intersubjectivity), joint attention to objects (secondary intersubjectivity), the emergence of values that are jointly represented and negotiated with others (tertiary intersubjectivity), and eventually the development of an ethical stance accompanying theories of mind by 4 years of age. We review this development and propose that if mirroring processes enable individuals to bridge their subjective experiences, human inter-subjectivity proper develops from reciprocal social exchanges that lead to value negotiation and mutual recognition, both cardinal trademarks of human sociality. Mitochondrial dysfunction has long been considered a key mechanism in the ageing process but surprisingly little attention has been paid to the impact of mitochondrial number or density within cells. Recent reports suggest a positive association between mitochondrial density, energy homeostasis and longevity. However, mitochondrial number also determines the number of sites generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) and we suggest that the links between mitochondrial density and ageing are more complex, potentially acting in both directions. The idea that increased density, (...) especially when combined with mitochondrial dysfunction, might accelerate ageing is supported by a negative correlation between mitochondrial density and maximum longevity in an interspecies comparison in mammals, and by evidence for an intimate interconnection between cellular ROS levels, mitochondrial density and cellular ageing. Recent data suggest that retrograde response, which activates mitochondrial biogenesis, accompanies cellular ageing processes. We hypothesise that increased mitochondrial biogenesis, and possibly also impaired degradation and segregation of mitochondria, if occurring as adaptation to pre‐existing mitochondrial dysfunction, might aggravate ROS production and thus actively contribute to ageing. Devido à sua adoção no Inglês, as línguas nacionais divulgaram o termo de proveniência latina medium e o seu plural media para designar formas simbólicas e materiais de comunicação da sociedade moderna. O uso do termo no plural é recente e também a atenção teórica que despertou. É sob “Teoria dos Media”, “Filosofia dos Media”, “Filosofia dos novos Media”, etc. que a investigação empírica e teórica se tem desenvolvido nas últimas décadas em uma variedade de disciplinas e encruzilhadas disciplinares. O (...) termo inglês sobrepõe‑se ao latino e assim desperta antigos ecos. Nas outras línguas nacionais a potenciação destas ressonâncias interlinguísticas poderá não ser a mesma, como acontece no Inglês. No entanto, em media o cruzamento do Inglês e do Latim revela acerca do termo aquilo que teoricamente e do ponto de vista semântico é necessário ter em conta, a saber ‑a mediação. Os termos medium e media não definem objetos isoláveis nos seus predicados materiais, mas, antes, uma polimorfia material na mediação, que está aí, no mundo da perceção, enquanto forma e/ou reproduz comunicação. Ao mesmo tempo que parecem designar formas da perceção, os media não são corpos ou organismos nem estados psíquicos. O presente trabalho dá conta dos problemas suscitados pelos nexos entre comunicação, perceção e técnica nos media, identifica a herança clássica nas Filosofias da Técnica e as viragens modernas. Our goal is to investigate the notion of self-agency in William James and Donald Winnicott. With James, we examine the descriptive element of what constitutes a self. With Winnicott, we explore his explanatory theory on self-emergence. Winnicott's perspective is presented here as the prehistory of the Jamesian self. James's conception of self is similar to the Winnicottian notion of an "integrated self", an embodied position that emerges from the organism's actions in the experiential field. The combination of the two approaches (...) leads to the idea that the self is a flux of identities emerging in interaction with others in the "transitional space" (an intermediate area of experience). Beyond the eras a dialogue seems to have been established between Bruegel the Elder (1525-1569) and Antonin Artaud (1896-1948). The poet’s wonder at the « painting of the North », both realistic and emblematic, reveals his deepest ideal as an artist : painting, a « magical » operation, deploys a power of expression based on signs and no longer on words, which the theatre is also called upon to seize. The juxtaposition of Bruegel’s Triumph of Death and a famous drawing (...) by Artaud, Le Théâtre de la cruauté [The Theatre of Cruelty], highlights the striking convergences between the two artists. Through their pictorial works, both of them renew over the centuries the funerary and mythical symbolism of death, inherited from the macabre scenes of medieval paintings, but also from ancient times. Studying the references to theatrical iconography in Bruegel’s painting, where carnival and crudity of death reinforce each other, allows us to deepen the meaning of these resonances. For the two artists, form and poetic momentum meet so that representation, as a structure common to painting and theatre, fixes a moment of the world, while animating that moment to infinity, thanks to signs conceived as « true hieroglyphs » (Artaud), a problem that Michel Foucault associated with the strongest truth that the experience of madness carries. Humans, however, of all social animals, have distinct ways of sharing. They evolved to become Homo Negotiatus; a species that is prone to bargain and to dispute the value of things until some agreement is reached.

Trata-se de texto dedicado à aplicação da interpretação diagramática de eventos da realidade tangível no modus apregoado por Charles Sanders Peirce no reino do direito tributário, utilizando-se como ferramental epistemológico para tal desiderato a fórmula de lógica simbólica criada por Paulo de Barros Carvalho chamada “regra-matriz de incidência tributária.

Neste artigo, discutiremos e contextualizaremos a noção de democracia selvagem dentro da teoria democrática de Claude Lefort. O texto será dividido em três partes. Primeiramente, apresentaremos as ideias fundamentais do pensamento político do autor. Em seguida, analisaremos o papel da ideia de democracia selvagem em três textos de Lefort: dois dedicados ao evento de Maio de 68, A desordem nova e Releitura, além do prefácio à segunda edição da obra Éléments d'une critique de la bureaucratie. Por último, apresentaremos a discussão (...) recente nos estudos lefortianos sobre a fecundidade do termo "democracia selvagem", relacionando, principalmente, dois temas importantes para Lefort: a dimensão do conflito nas democracias e a relação do direito com as lutas democráticas. Este estudo tem por objetivo realizar uma reflexão sobre a feminização da velhice e o contexto sócio-familiar-parental de mulheres na contemporaneidade, com destaque para o impacto das doenças crônicas não transmissíveis no processo de envelhecimento e suas ramificações para o grupo de pertencimento, as estratégias de plasticidade – a resiliência –, da mulher idosa no enfrentamento das vicissitudes impostas pelo processo saúde-doença. Busca também refletir sobre questões que envolvem a multidimensionalidade do processo de viver-envelhecer da mulher. Preocupa-se em promover sensibilização (...) de profissionais da área das ciências da saúde a uma práxis interdisciplinar para os cuidados às especificidades do ser mulher idosa, enlaçando o contexto de pertencimento relacional. This chapter is devoted to reflecting on the role of empathy in interactions with people with profound intellectual disabilities. We have a duty to respect people with intellectual disabilities. Respect involves identification with a point of view. We owe them an effort at identification with their perspective. However, if intellectually disabled people’s communicative abilities are impaired, our apprehension of their point of view might be limited, reducing our ability to identify with them and respect them. To answer this challenge, I (...) appeal to empathy. Through imaginative empathy, we can learn to identify with their perspectives. I argue that empathy is a good moral guide and can be helpful in developing respectful attitudes toward people with profound intellectual disabilities. (shrink)

This thesis aims to study the origins of interiority from an externalist perspective. The process by which self-knowledge is formed is considered in relation to the development of the first-person perspective. From a first-person perspective, one is capable of self-referring and knowing one's own mental and physical states. Self-consciousness and self-knowledge are discussed in relation to Descartes' idea of first-person authority. The Cartesian idea contends that the first-person perspective has privileged and non-empirical access to one's own mental state. On the (...) contrary, externalism's central thesis contends that the content of one's own mental state originates from interactions with the environment, thus, there is no privileged access of one's own mental state. Thus, the externalist's thesis puts into question the Cartesian idea of privileged epistemic access of the first person. The perceptual externalism of Davidson, for example, proposes a triadic solution to the origins of self-knowledge. Davidson's thesis is presented as reconciling self-knowledge and the basic externalist ideas. Two externalist models on the origins of self-knowledge are further discussed: 1) ecological models proposing a development of a sense of self as a function of interactions with the environment; 2) the psychological model of Winnicott proposing that the developing sense of self arises from the triadic relation between self, others, and transitional object(s). We defend the thesis that Winnicott's model is the most apt at describing the Davidsonian externalist model of the origins of self-knowledge. (shrink)

The project scrutinizes the prevalent themes associated with paradisiacal imagery, dissecting the intricate weave of religious doctrines, mythologies, and the intrinsic nature of paradise – be it a tangible realm or a metaphysical state. This inquiry critically assesses the role of AI-generated art, derived from complex algebraic formulations, in mirroring conventional (...) iconography and exposing inherent biases. Such revelations underscore the cultural resonance of diverse traditions and the potential presence of subconscious prejudices. Employing AI algorithms capable of transforming textual prompts into vivid illustrations, this research unveils insights into the nexus of AI and cultural portrayals of utopia, thereby provoking profound philosophical deliberations. Central to these contemplations is the extent of human dominion over conceptualized ideals and the prospect of AI-crafted art inadvertently molding our paradisiacal perceptions, with implications ranging from reinforcement of stereotypes to shaping intrinsic cognitive schemas. Siguiendo los enfoques contemporáneos del significado de la Historia de la Filosofía para la Filosofía, en este trabajo abordaré la situación de la Historia de la Filosofía de Hegel en el sistema, confrontándola con las Historias especiales (Política, Arte, Religión), el desarrollo lógico de la Idea en figuras y las «totalidades concretas» dotadas de significado epocal. « Dans cet article, nous tenterons d’interpréter la notion controversée de musique populaire brésilienne en tant que concept porteur d’un contenu à la fois utopique et idéologique, en nous appuyant sur le concept d’idéologie dans la pensée de Marx et d’Adorno, ainsi que sur une intuition du philosophe brésilien Vladimir Safatle. Notre hypothèse est la suivante : la musique populaire brésilienne, portée par un mouvement dialectique, a changé de paradigme tout au long du xx e siècle, avec la samba, la (...) bossa-nova et la musique populaire brésilienne ( mpb ) comme paradigmes successifs. Resumo: No presente artigo, discutimos as contribuições do gênero ensaio ao pensamento crítico feminista, identificadas nos procedimentos formais da linguagem nos textos de Lélia Gonzalez e de Marilena Chaui acerca da sociedade brasileira. Questionamos de que maneira as características do ensaio potencializam a crítica ao sexismo, racismo e autoritarismo nas concepções da “Mulher negra”, em Gonzalez, num confronto imaginário com o “Mito Fundador”, em Chaui. Objetivamos localizar na escrita das autoras os artifícios característicos do ensaio, mobilizados para estimular reflexões críticas (...) nas leitoras. Em meio ao embate da “Mulher Negra” com o “Mito Fundador”, apostamos nos sentidos erráticos do ensaio diante do discurso dogmático que violenta o corpo negro feminino. We question how the characteristics of the essay strengthen criticism of sexism, racism and authoritarianism in the conceptions of the “Black Woman”, in Gonzalez, in an imaginary confrontation with the “Founding Myth” in Chaui. We aimed to locate, in the authors’ writing, the characteristic devices of the essay, mobilized to stimulate critical reflections in the readers. In the midst of the clash between the “Black Woman” and the “Founding Myth”, we bet on the erratic meanings of the essay faced with the dogmatic discourse that violates the female Black body. O objetivo do artigo é discutir o pensamento político de Espinosa confrontando-o, por um lado, com o que poderíamos chamar a “ideologia dominante" da época, o pensamento cristão, aqui examinado a partir da correspondência com o dinamarquês N. Stensen, e, por outro lado, com o quadro teórico em que a questão política está então a ser recolocada, o pensamento de Hobbes. Além da conhecida explicitação do que o distingue em relação a Hobbes ( Carta L, a J. Jelles), é na (...) Correspondência que Espinosa expõe a articulação entre a política e os grandes temas de sua metafísica, como são a doutrina da causa imanente e o binômio liberdade/necessidade. Lugar privilegiado de auscultação da opinião dominante e, por isso, exercício em si mesmo exemplarmente político, as cartas são também o espaço textual em que a metafísica se expõe às suas consequências políticas e a teoria se confronta com a prática, oferecendo uma visão de Espinosa que, se está longe do "positivista" hobbesiano, não está menos longe do visionário afastado da realidade que o circunda e o condiciona. O problema da causa mental é uma das questões filosóficas mais fascinantes na obra de Freud. A releitura neo-pragmática que Cláudia Passos-Ferreira faz sobre o tema se insere no interior de profícuos debates no campo da Psicanálise, Filosofia da Psicanálise e da Filosofia da Mente que têm contribuído para a inovação do pensamento nas teorizações psicanalíticas. Em A maquina semântica de Freud, Cláudia aborda a teoria causal do mental de Freud e seu uso na explicação do conflito psíquico. Diante (...) dos impasses do problema, Freud criou uma dupla dimensão da causalidade psíquica, que oscila da causa mecanicista à causa intencional. A hipótese de Cláudia é que a forma mais coerente de defender a tese da causalidade psíquica é descrevê-la como ‘causa intencional’, usando o vocabulário psicológico. Para dar suporte a essa ideia, a concepção estrita da causalidade sustentada por Wittgenstein é dispensada, e a ideia de causa mental em Davidson é endossada como aquela que pode ser mais facilmente articulável às hipóteses freudianas. Em Wittgenstein, busca-se, sobretudo, o apoio teórico para analisar os pontos fracos das teses causais freudianas; em Davidson, o suporte necessário a explicitação e validação lógicas do que Freud afirma sobre o tema. Claudia analisa três momentos da obra freudiana. Na primeira tópica, Freud usa um vocabulário híbrido, descrevendo o psiquismo tanto em termos de causas a-racionais quanto em termos intencionais. Na segunda tópica, o psiquismo assume, cada vez mais, uma descrição intencional, e a causa a-racional da energia pulsional, inicialmente apresentada como um motor do psiquismo, dá lugar a angústia como um afeto intencional que obriga o eu a encontrar uma solução para os conflitos psíquicos. Esse livro reúne tanto o interesse filosófico pelos problemas da causação mental e da relação mente-corpo quanto o refinamento do arcabouço teórico que guia a prática clínica. (shrink)

Maquiavel é geralmente considerado um precursor, senão mesmo o criador, da ciência política. Tal interpretação vê na obra do Florentino uma sistematização da racionalidade intrínseca à ação humana. Com tonalidades distintas, podemos vê-la em autores tão diferentes como Hegel, Meinecke ou Leo Strauss, que atribuem a Maquiavel a intuição do estado como princípio subjacente à autonomia do político e ao realismo. Estará, no entanto, esse princípio realmente presente na obra de Maquiavel? O presente texto questiona semelhante hipótese, sustentando, ao invés, (...) que o Florentino pertence a um universo de pensamento onde o moderno conceito de estado se encontra ausente. Pelo contrário, a mistura de razão e desrazão, que é inerente à ação política, mas que o postulado fundador da ciência política dos modernos – o mito do estado, como lhe chama Cassirer – virá ocultar, ainda se encontra a descoberto.
